Principal Investigator(s): Susan Reif, PhD

SERP Investigators & Collaborators: Marvin Swartz, MD

Project Description: This community-based participatory research study examines the feasibility of implementing a mental health treatment and risk reduction intervention for 40 HIV-infected individuals with a major Axis I mental disorder (with or without co-occurring substance use). An evidence-based treatment program, the Illness Management and Recovery Model, will be adapted for use with HIV-positive individuals and provided in the clients' homes or place of their choosing for 9 months with the objectives of addressing immediate treatment needs, stabilizing psychiatric symptoms, addressing barriers to treatment, linking participants with existing mental health services as needed and providing HIV risk reduction counseling as needed.
